Shree Pandharinath College of Arts and Commerce run by Prerna Education Society, is a prestigious college in Narkhed circle. This college was established by Prerna Education Society in 1971 with the aim of providing higher education to the students of Narkhed Town and rural areas and to develop them in every possible way. When the financial, mental and educational condition of the people was completely disturbed and facing all these dire situations, Perrana Education Society took a bold decision and started a degree college with the aim of public welfare. From the very beginning of the college i.e. from 1971, the subject of 'Economics' was started in this college. The year 1972 marked the enrolment of only 42 students in B.A.-I. Later, however, it increased steadily. Along with the numerical and qualitative development of the college, the Department of Economics also progressed in both aspects. The Department of Economics has been a creative and prestigious department in the college, Since the establishment of the institution Prof. R.L. Vaidya had been working as the Head of Economics Department from 1974 to 2005. From 1st September 2008 as the Head of Department of Economics Prof. Dr. Ravi S. Sorte has been working as a full time faculty. Dr. D.H. Bonde was working as Principal from 1971 to 1995. From 1995 to 2007, Prof. Y.D. Chalkhor was working. Prof. K.U. Thombare held the charge as Executive Principal from 2007 to 2008. From December 6, 2007 Dr. Jayant Jawanjal has been working on the post of principal of the college. The Department of Economics gained speed with the cooperation and efforts of the principal, all professors, staff and students of the college. Through their endeavors and guidance, the subject is progressing slowly but surely.

The academic graph of the Department of Economics is steadily rising. A 'Study Committee' has been working under this department, organizing economic trips, research projects, surveys, essay competitions on topics that will increase economic knowledge, yearbook projects, homework, seminars on annual budgets and conducting seminars etc. 1132 textbooks of Economics are available in the college library and 602 related books and bibliographies are available. It is constantly increasing. Various magazines and periodicals related to economics majors are regularly available in the library. These include economic dialogue, economic universe, planning and Kurukshetra etc. All these benefit the students to gain knowledge.The Department of Economics organized a State Level Seminar in 2009 under UGC Scheme, on the topic “Impact of Special Economic Zones on Agriculture”. Besides, Dr. Ravi S. Sorte, Associate Professor and Head, completed a UGC Sponsored Major Research Project on “Population, Labor Force and Employment” under the Department of Economics has been completed in 2013.
