Department of English

Prerna Education Society’s Shree Pandharinath Arts and Commerce College, Narkhed was set up in 1971 to ease Higher Education for students of Narkhed Circle. Since the beginning, the Department of English has played a pivotal part in the all-around development of all students. The Department of English was headed by Prof. Nana R. Umathe, Ex-Principal of the college, from 1971 to 1991 and then Prof. Govind Shekoji Khandare headed it from 1991 to 2005 till his retirement. The last half of the year 2005 saw Prof. M.R. Pandey taking the charge of HOD till his unforeseen death in 2011. The whole responsibility fell on Dr A.J. Ganvir’s shoulders to head the department and discharge all the duties. Dr Anil Jaydeo Ganvir has been working as HOD from 2011 to 2023. The department offers courses in the subjects of Compulsory English for all undergraduate students enrolled in B. A. and B.Com. And English Literature for all acolytes of humanities. The Department During the reign of Professor Khandare Planned to commence to develop literally Qualities in the writing of all Students. Besides, this department initiated UGC-sponsored career-oriented courses for all undergraduate students from 2008 to 2012, and Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses in Spoken English were offered. It began to teach ELT to undergraduate students of the humanity stream in 2003 as a self-financed course and still it is continuous. The Department of English has been preserving the glorious tradition of English pedagogy since the beginning.

Dr Anil Jaydeo Ganvir, Head, Department of English, was thereby declared eligible for the award of PhD. Degree in the Faculty of Humanities on 4 th Dec. 2021, and later on he was found to be duly qualified on examination of the thesis entitled “Biblical Element in the Religious Poetry of Gerard Manley Hopkins: A Critical Study” was admitted to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Humanities in the Subject of English in RTMNU in the year 2021. He was the first working faculty of the institution who was awarded a doctorate in English in the 109 th Convocation 2022 on 25 th May 2022. The Department of English runs English Literary Association in the college and encourages all students to author poems, write-ups, and several pieces of prose. English Department has two faculty members including the head. The year 2016 witnessed Prof. Dr. Shweta Sanjay Bajpai joining this department.
